Why We Play

Because childhood is messy.

And it should be.

Remember making potions in the backyard? Collecting sticks, crushing flowers, digging holes and adding just a little more water to see what would happen?

That's the childhood we're trying to hold onto.

At Mud Buddies, we're big believers in letting kids be kids. Getting muddy, following their curiosity, testing their own ideas and doing things that don't always make a whole lot of sense to us boring grown ups.

We don't do step-by-step instructions, perfectly finished crafts or tell little humans how they're supposed to play.

If they want to spend an hour pouring water between two buckets? Absolutely, go for it buddy.

Mix every colour into a questionable shade of brown? Beautiful, an artist at work.

Spend the whole session watching before they're ready to join in? Also SO fine (and so normal!)

There's so much learning happening in those little moments, without us needing to turn everything into a lesson.

We use nature, real tools, interesting textures and plenty of opportunities to make a mess. We give children the space to explore, take little risks, make decisions and figure things out for themselves.

And sometimes that means reminding ourselves to ask:

Is it dangerous, or just inconvenient?

Because childhood doesn't need to be perfectly curated, colour coordinated or constantly directed by adults.

Sometimes it just needs a bucket of water, a handful of dirt and Mama to be able to take a dang breath!

Trust. The. Play.
